grammar
i am a good proof-reader. i like to pay attention to grammar rules. which is why i am in the facebook group "
i judge you when you use poor grammar."
tonight was sort of slow, so i was browsing the photos and i had to share two unbelievable ones.
1. check before you tattoo yourself. ask a friend. ask your tattoo artist. please.

added challenge: name that buffalo-originated musical artist!
2. the back story on this photo: this was ordered for a going-away party at an office. the office worker called the cake place (wal-mart) and told them they wanted the following message: "
Best Wishes Suzanne, and underneath that,
we will miss you".

weird things seen while driving

this is my response to
dooey and
rachel's entries about weird things they saw on the road. while its definitely not as cool as
giant tires or
whole houses, it is two mattresses (or perhaps one mattress and a box spring) atop a SUV*, held on only by the gentlemen's arms who were inside.
look again:

notice the arm. there was one on the other side and they were driving about 25 mph. which still seemed a bit ridiculous as buffalo can get pretty windy. what would happen if a gust of wind got under the front of the mattresses? hence why i was driving along side.
* grammar check: "a SUV" sounds funny - should it be "an SUV"? i should ask
grammar girl.

banana bread mmm
i made banana bread the other day. and then took pictures. so that i could write about it. in my blog.
banana bread
3 over-ripe bananas* (mostly brown)
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup white flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt
3/4 cup pecans, chopped (optional)
*most recipes i saw called for 3 or 4 ripe bananas, but i only had 2, so i added 1/2 cup of applesauce, which made the bread really moist and still tasted alot of bananas.
mash bananas to lumpy consistency. add butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. stir until mostly mixed. add dry ingredients (sift if you wish) and blend. do not overmix so much that there are no banana lumps. [nut note: if you want nuts in your bread, add them now. i just sprinkled them on top because i was indecisive about whether i would like them or not]
spoon into greased loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes at 350 F. enjoy! i like mine toasted in the morning w/butter.
and then it snowed. and not nice fluffy snow. ugly cold sleet snow.

flickr endorsement
flickr has a cool new way of tagging photos (well its probably not new) - geotagging! so now if you want to see all my photos from school, you just click on the map!

pretty exciting, huh? and slightly creepy? right now i have it set so that my photos don't show up in general browsing, just if i link to them. but if you didn't set the privacy levels, i think this would be a really creepy way for stalkers / burglers / etc. to invade your privacy. but for now, its cool.

cripples.
THIS is what i woke up to the other day:

no not the car. crutches. on the sidewalk. with no owner.
really, people of huntington? is this really how you want our fine road portrayed? and why are they outside of my house? as if i litter the street with large metal objects. was some poor kid with a broken leg abducted outside my house? was a miracle of sorts performed and the crutch-using owner was suddenly able to walk and cast down his crutches in triumph?
well they are gone now, but for a fleeting moment, my life made no sense.

a huntington halloween
halloween represented in pictoral fashion (plus a few short sentences).
oh - and we had trick or treater's!! my very first halloween being on the other side of the door (although for like the past 6 or 7 i think i have not been ringing doorbells...). i actually got to pass out candy! which was weird. and caused alot of ridiculous pre-candy handing out stress. what do you say when they come to the door? is it lame if i'm wearing a costume? do you hand out the candy, or do they pick? will i have enough? what if i only get 2 kids? what if we get 90?
should i put the pumpkin on the porch (where it could catch some unsuspecting kid's cape on fire)? should they come to the front or side door (we live on the corner)? the front door is easily accessible, but has rickety stairs (lawsuit?) but the side door is harder to see if people are coming.
but i survived. here are some pictures.
the FIRST costume (this one didn't work out)

the second costume

bewitching (notice my solution to the pumpkin issue.. put it on a chair! no one was harmed during the evening - success!)

pictures: halloween edition!
in case you didn't know, halloween / october / fall is my favorite holiday / month / season, so i've been in the autumn mood around the house! i think its time for a list.
HALLOWEENIE (i said weenie) THINGS I HAVE BEEN UP TO
1. decorating the apartment in a halloweenish setting.
2. making things with pumpkin in it - pumpkin cake, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin pie. mmm.
3. finding my way out of a corn maize maze*.
4. making jack'o'lanterns (
inspiration).
5. making delicious ding dong spiders (
inspiration).
6. hallowine mystery
wine tasting tour.
7. living with a black cat.
PICTURES OF THESE THINGS (because pictures are more fun)
1-3 - no pictures. sorrry
4. nate's masterpiece (pun intended) - how am i supposed to display this??

MY PG-13 pumpkin

5. DING DONG SPIDERS
number one is an alien. he is here to eat your brains.

number two is just evil.

7. obligatory halloween cat

*yes i know that corn maize maze is redundant. i also know that when going to places where puns are so easily made (CORNy puns, i might add), you should leave nate. but i didn't follow either, so why start now?

stella says hi
once again, i'm feeling lazy, so this entry will be mostly pictures and un-ordered lists (remember that from mgs351? -, etc). ok i lied, these are mostly little blurbs rather than lists. and the one list is ordered... its numbered. and no pictures. whatever. i should have just deleted and re-written the first sentence, but instead i just keep writing. wow.
IN OTHER NEWS
my contacts are really messed up so i often have to take one out in the middle of the day (usually while on campus). this has resulted in much one-eyed driving and many more headaches than necessary. i don't really know what to do since... well i just don't know what to do. i guess i could call my optometrist. nah.
i am performing tomorrow night (well tonight since its now 1am) at the CFA in a poetry collaboration project. thing. with dancers. and poetry. and weirdness. at least our dance has music... some of the pieces are just people reading a poem and dancers dancing. i'm not
autistic artistic enough for those type of performances. i would probably just giggle. i guess i'm not mature enough.
PODCASTS I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING LATELY
i have recently discovered the majesty of podcasts. i have always detested them based on their name alone, i thought they were stupid because they were another corny mutation of iGhey slash Apple/Mac lingo. but now i have fully embraced their corniness (and free of chargeness) and am now a believer. i have seen the light.
so for all of you (equal: no one) who also enjoy podcasts, i will list the ones that i have found particularly interesting. they are all based around my driving habits since that is when i listen to them. because i'm a huge dork and like to listen to audiobook-ish things. apparently the parental-o-meter from last entry didn't gauge horrible interests because then i would totally be kenzilla. audiobooks and all. (oooh unordered list!!! see i didnt lie)
- Grammar Girl - because haven't you ever wondered if the past tense of hang is hanged or hung?? (see episode 34) her episodes are short and sweet, meaning i can listen to a whole one from the CFA to Hadley (about 4-5 minutes)
- NPR: Selected Shorts - because i like stories. each episode generally has two to three short stories, usually one contemporary and one not-so much. i usually like the first story better, but maybe it has something to do with my attention span. i listen to these from my aparment to north campus (about 15-20 minutes per story).
- Savage Lovecast - because dan savage cuts through the bullshit and tells a-holes when they're being a-holes, etc. and i enjoy listening to him cut people down. i am evil. these usually take two trips (to north and back, or to pilates and then to north)
those are three that i'm sold on for now. i will let you know when i like a new one. cause i know you're waiting with baited breath. ooh podcast. so sexy. and now a random cat picture because i said i didn't have pictures and now aren't you surprised?

okbye.

lazy is louder than words
trying to make up for a month's lack of posting is kind of hard, so i'll just not try.
and because i'm lazy (see last post) i will use pictures instead of words.
EVENTS THAT HAVE TRANSPIRED SINCE JULY
1. my tomato plants out-grew my dads but i had to leave before they produced more than 3 mini-tomatos. so sad.

2. i got new teacups.

3. sara and i are training the cat. unsuccessfully. sara is training her to stop meowing at 3am. i am training her to be a trapeze artist.

4. we went to a bills game. i went to two bills game. nate went to one. i sat in sara's season ticket so-close-you-can-see-their-cute-little-pants seats. nate sat in the nosebleeds. i drank a whole 24 oz. beer. nate drank some watered down sprite. suck it nate.

5. i went back to school.

ob-la-di, ob-la-da
um, so i've been kind of forgetful lately. i mean, normally i'm what most people would call "absent-minded", so a little bit of forgetfulness is normal. the kind where you go into the kitchen and then realize you have no idea why you went in there to begin with. that's pretty normal. but lately my forgetfulness has reached new levels of ridiculousness.
so for the past two weeks, there's been a funny smell in our kitchen near the dishwasher/sink/oven area. kind of a rotting garbage, something died somewhere, flesh-rot smell. i went away for one of those weeks and forgot about it, but my dad went insane trying to figure out where the horrific smell was coming from while i was away. he ended up thinking that it was the sinks, since the dishwasher's been backing up and he thought some of the rank dishwater has been pooling somewhere in the pipes. he sprayed everything w/chlorox and that solved (masked) the smell for a while.
last night i was in my room and i heard him doing the sniff test thing where he walks around sniffing loudly to signify he can smell something and i should come out and identify/clean whatever he can smell because he doesn't want to look for it. i dismissed it as he's going senile and ignored him. until i heard 'what the hell?!'
apparently (well not apparently, actually), i had left a once-frozen, now-mush, lasagna in the oven for about two and half weeks. we don't use our oven in the summer because it's too hot, but i had wanted lasagna and had started to defrost it in the oven for a bit and then i guess i got distracted. the lasagna had molded into a black mush and the smell was enough to melt flesh*.
as a result, we got to use the cleaning cycle (the one where your oven burns itself for hours and you get to use the lock on the front) of the oven for the first time.
yay!
A QUICK COMPARISON
2007 -

2003 -

aside from the poor quality of the bottom picture, making it seem like it was taking mid-80s, only FOUR years passed between the bottom and the top and i'm pretty sure jeremy looks like he went from fifteen to thirty-seven. no wonder when he attended my dance show, the guy next to him asked if his SON was dancing in the show.
*i just like using the word flesh today.
