about smartcookie
i write about what goes on in my life. i write about things i think are funny. i write nonsense. i write about bodily functions.
i have a boyfriend/husband named nathan who loves video games. we get along great. about 7% of the time. any percentage greater is purely a curious statistical anomaly.
and as our story progresses, you may wonder who i'm talking about.
aside from courageous nathan, our main characters include:
jeremy (ex-roommate.. now scranton-ite)
megan (married one and my once upon a time roommate)
sara (bf 4-eva, aka SPIFE)
hohl (eternally confusing chewing someone out with eating someone out)
oh. and i teach dance and like accounting. the end.
...so it's been like, um, two and a half years. that's not THAT long of a blog hiatus. I was reading old entries and was like, "I remember blogging. I was so cool back then. I had like four readers!" So I figured I'd start up again.
But lots of Big Life Stuff has happened and I feel like I missed out on writing about them.
So I will paraphrase the last two and half years:
graduated college
moved to albany to First Apartment w/Nate
got first Big Fancy Business Job
quit first Big Fancy Business Job
continued working Artsy Fulfilling Job
got part-time Business Job (not as Fancy, way more Awesome) and was happy with work-life balance
and oh yeah, got married.
so this happened.
at least we didn't have any kids. THAT would be insane.
my father's junk collection always amazes me. he could make a career out of being a pack rat.
got some old speakers that don't work you want to get rid of? he's your man. thankfully he has not learned about the "free" section on craigslist or he would need to build another house just for his junk.
so what prompted this post was my visit to his house today, during which we needed to get something out of the garage.
now before i go any further, i need to explain that we live in the northeast. so it is FALL. soon to be WINTER. currently its a few degrees above freezing and this is a typical picture at his house for october:
and here is the view into the non-insulated garage:
ok, so its not THAT highly unusual... garden tools, miscellaneous car fluids, tools, scraps... but wait....
what's that in the back?
some sort of leafy, vegetation..
OH MY LORD it is a tropical plant frenzy!
anyone need some amazon, 8-foot tall umbrella tree?
i counted at least 8 large tropical rain-foresty plants. apparently the back story is that my dad's work was going to toss them because they have gotten so large and out of hand, so my dad "saved" them and took them out of the dumpster.
i would have loved to see all 8 of them being transported in his honda civic.

brrrrrrrz
this weather is unacceptable. this weather is unfair. this weather makes me want to stay under my nice warm covers until its spring again.
with what was possibly the worst week of 2008 for me*, all hopes for nablopomo vanished. and like all the diets i've ever tried, i don't jump back on the horse, i lie down and hope it all goes away.
so i'm sorry, nablopomo-ers, i didn't make it this year. go on without me *sob*.
oh wait.
it's december.
crap.
*which in reflection, while it was pretty bad, if that's the worst week all year, i've been pretty lucky.
